Shot on Gold A PlaybyPlay Novel Jaci Burton 9780399585166 Books
Shot on Gold by Jaci Burton was the fourteenth book in the Play-by-Play series.USA Olympians Will “Mad Dog” Madigan (hockey) and Amber Sloan (figure skating) met in Vancouver as they were seeking the coveted Gold medal in their sport. They were both competitive, dedicated, hard working, committed and understood each other’s drive. I enjoyed reading this story as we are currently experiencing a Winter Olympics in real life.
Not only did Burton highlight the meeting and relationship development between Amber and Will, but she had multiple secondary storylines running simultaneously. For example, we experienced Amber’s reluctance to avoid seclusion as she prepared for her events. She had always been taught to avoid making friends and to stay focused by not forming any bonds while competing. Burton also demonstrated Amber’s struggles with a controlling mother - one who made many sacrifices throughout the years and couldn’t quite give it up the control. We were also blessed with details for pursuing Gold within both hockey and figure skating. It’s never an easy road and it was an enjoyable read to get the various challenges and ranges of emotion involved during each stage of the respective Olympic event.
Lastly, Burton had a great supporting cast through the involvement of other athletes. I enjoyed the camaraderie and appreciated that it wasn’t hateful drama, but was a healthy competitive streak amongst friends.
All in all, it was enjoyable and entertaining. I’m not sure where book fifteen will take us, but I’m a fan of the series and can’t wait to see where Burton leads us next.

Shot on Gold A PlaybyPlay Novel Jaci Burton 9780399585166 Books Reviews
I have read all and enjoyed most of the Play-by-Play series; I really like reading stories about professional athletes. In Shot On Gold, what was really awesome was the fact that along with Will, the female lead, Amber, was also a professional athlete. I enjoyed reading all the previous stories where men were the professional athletes but this book was very refreshing with the female athlete added. The author also had a really nice take on inside access for the Olympics.
I love hockey, Nashville Predators are my team. I also love ice skating. This book was the best of two worlds. It has excitement, love and heartbreak. If you love sports you will love this book. Jaci writes wonderful novels. There is sexy seens but also friendship and first love. Highly recommended this book
I am very sad this is the last book of the series and because of that this book needed epilogue to really wrap it up.
I liked the story line being the Olympics are on t.v. but just skimmed the parts about competitions. I just liked the characters but didn't get sucked in. Be warned there is sex and lots of it good steamy sex but lots of sex.
Charming, heart felt story of hockey player Will meeting figure skating, Amber at the Gold Winter Games. Their love story over three weeks in a winter village for all various winter sports participants to live in ,while practicing for their time to be judged for the gold, silver or bronze. In this story are many little stories with hints into a professional ‘s mind to stay on top of their game. I felt a gambit of emotions. You’ll love this book.
I love sports romances! I’ve read all of the books in this series and liked them, even loved some. This book was pretty tame. The premise was mildly intriguing - Olympic figure skater and hockey player fall in love at the games. The heroine, Amber, was mildly compelling - pretty and talented but naive for her age. The hero, Will, was more compelling - handsome, talented, famous, rich, sweet, and sexy. The writing style and storyline were so matter-of-fact that they didn’t leave much room for chemistry or sizzle. Overall, a pretty good book that never quite captured my fancy.
I liked how the other athletes got to know each other during the Olympic s. Amber and will are perfect for each other . amber ,will and all there friends did really well in the Olympics. I teared up a little bit when amber finally win her gold medal she worked hard for over the years. Will and his teammates finally got the goldmedal they played hard for . will was so carry towards amber. Amber's mom was very bossing in amber's skating.I liked how amber and will supported each other in there figure skating and hockey. It was nice to see what athletes do when they are not compete in the Olympics. Will and Amber make a great couple. I loved this book.
Amber Sloane is a figure skater who has led a very sheltered life. Her mother is her manager and very strict. She makes sure that Amber has all her focus on her skating. This year she is going to the Winter Olympics. It is her third time and being twenty-four she knows this is her last chance to win gold. Each time she has been to the Olympics before she kept to herself, didn't socialize and made no friends. She is determined that this time will be different.
Will "Mad Dog" Madigan is at the Winter Olympics to play for the U.S. hockey team. He's been here before and hopes to go home with a gold medal this time. When he and Amber meet he is mesmerized by her. She is so different from the many other girls he has gone out with. She is beautiful, smart and funny and he is extremely attracted to her. Amber feels the connection too but feels that compared to Will she is very naive.
This is a wonderful hockey romance . From the first page you are drawn in. I loved every minute of it and was sorry to see it end. Try it, you'll like it!
