My thoughts on this book are conflicting. I really enjoyed it, but I had some major issues with it as well. This review will contain spoilers, please be aware.First what I considered the positives of this story: the writing style and flow of this book was great. It was a seamless story that was easy to read and difficult to put down. I loved the the characters and the introduction if an anti-hero. I also liked that this was a complete story with the main couple but could easily folw into the next book in the series; that as a reader I could stop with this story and not feel like anything was missing.
Now the negatives (spoilers): I am completely uncomfortable with the way that rape was used and dealt with in this story. It was, in my opinion, a throw away issue and not taken seriously. It was used as a game in the story. Then the woman that was raped allowed the man to have sex with here again for a house, it was to be mutual this time. It just felt wrong and disrespectful to victims in real life.
I did enjoy this story and will read more from both this author and in this series. I would have liked more with the two main characters, because this story almost felt more like a set up to book 2, Mateo's story rather then Vince and Mia's story.

Accidental Witness Morelli Family #1 edition by Sam Mariano Romance eBooks Reviews
This book!! I don't even know where to begin. I was hooked from the very beginning and was eager for more at the end. All of these characters are amazing. Vince, Mia, Adrian and Mateo. Honestly, that man will build you up, break you down, rebuild you and then give your feelings and heart back to you in a pretty little ribbon clad box. I was blown away, shocked, sad, angered, happy, murderous... way to many emotions to feel for a human at one time, lol. But, amazing! That's the number one word that comes to mind at the end. I craved more! How can you not? Please, read this series! You don't be disappointed! I've only finished book 1 tonight and I'm in love! With the characters and the author!
Mafia Romance with lots of darkness. Not as dark as others I have read but does contain emotional triggers to include rape. If your are sensitive to these triggers then you may not enjoy it. I like to read how these characters overcome these situations. This is the beginning of a long series. Don't get intimidated by the length of the series. Know that there are no cliffhangers in any of the books. You are free to except the ending of each book in the series as an end. Of course the author leaves you wanting more to the story, but no cliffhangers. Vince and Mia are interwoven into the Mafia world led by Mateo. Can they protect each other? Can they survive in Mateo's world? What sacrifices do they have to make?? Read to find out, and get ready to be sucked in to the Morelli saga.
Seriously, my brain and my heart are in such a battle right now! I'm having trouble coming to terms with exactly how I'm wanting this story to conclude.
I love all the characters here. (Yes, even the ones we're really supposed to hate) **cough cough Mateo**
My heart goes out to Mia. After witnessing bad boy Vince from the notorious Morelli family commit a crime, she slowly gets wrapped up in his lifestyle after he catches her. The two enter into a relationship. Despite their efforts to keep it secret from the head of the Morelli family, Mateo, he finds out and forces Mia into their family. Moves her into the house they all share, buys her luxurious clothes and shoes, and makes it his personal mission to destroy Vince and Mia's relationship before it even has a chance to bloom.
Can Mia and Vince find a way to be together without Mateo interfering? Or will Mateo get Mia for himself, whether she wants to be his or not?
Great start to the series, completely consuming!
Mia sees something she shouldn't have. Worse yet, Vince, a mob family member knows what she saw. He doesn't want to kill her, but he is interested in her. They fall in love. Happily ever after--Not.
Vince's cousin, Mateo Morelli, is head of the crime family. Everybody (and I mean everybody) warns Mia that there is no way Mateo will let her live once he finds out what she saw. And he will find out. Mateo knows everything. So, Vince breaks up with her, hoping to spare her. Mia is heartbroken.
But it is all for naught. Mateo finds out anyway, takes her to his home, and points a gun to her head. He agrees to let her live, as long as Vince still wants her, but she has to move into his house, and for all intents and purposes, becomes Mateo's mafia bride.
I won't spoil the rest of the story, but I'll just say that Mateo is just as bad if not worse than everyone warned Mia. He is all about controlling his friends and family, and if you want to live, you'd better be loyal to him. Period. The end. Again, everyone warns Mia, especially Vince, but she thinks she can play nice and befriend the hardened mob man. Boy, is she wrong.
The plot of this book was amazing. I have mixed feelings about some of the characters. Some of Mia's actions did bother me. I thought Mia was way too naïve. (Hasn't she seen the Godfather or Goodfellas?) I wanted to smack some sense in her.
However, even if she was a genius she never could have outwitted Mateo, and he never would have let her go. So I guess what I'm saying is, it really didn't matter that she was incredibly naïve and trusting.
I also don't like Mateo--like at all. He's a garbage human. Again, no spoilers, but what he did to Mia was so terrible, I don't see how she can possibly like him in any way, shape, or form. From what B. tells me, I will start liking him in the following books. I hope he grows on me. From what B. tells me, he probably will.
