I wish I had this wonderful "A Tree for Max" book when I was teaching 1st through 5th-graders (in Boston inner city and suburban public schools and an elite private school). I'd have used it as a vehicle to engage my students, with stimulating discussions (about expressing feelings, coping with change, beauty/ecology/geography of natural world, and reflections on the incredible companionship with/love of pets). This mesmorizing, fully-photographed book offers readers of all ages a wholesome, positively-directed, and family-oriented book for them to read/view for their pleasure and entertainment. My grandchildren were enchanted by the author's seamless integration of his large-format pictures.

As a single parent I struggled with helping my daughter learn to deal with change and loss after her mother died. Not all changes or losses are so great for all children, but learning to deal with change and loss is something all children must do. Not just a fable, it should become an evergreen in childrens' storytelling literature...Bravo
