Another great book by this amazing author! I couldn't put this book down, reading into the night to finish it. The realism this author achieves is phenomenal. Wow, what great detail is incorporated - you feel like you are right there in the pilot seat of a B-17, you feel the fear when the enemy fighters begin shooting, you feel the terror of the men on the plane and I would literally hold my breath, reading as fast as I could, as they fought to bring the plane under control or tend to wounded buddies. Several times something sad and unexpected happened and I felt totally crushed. Also, details of the War and what our troops went through, and the brilliant strategies of the Allied troops was fascinating. Beyond all that, the anguish of Ruth dealing with the nightmares of her past squeezed my heart. My heart went out to her as she struggled to keep on. Being from Kentucky, I loved that she went to Bowman Field for some of her training. But the thing I loved most was how both of these people learned to listen to God and really trust Him as they walked through their respective 'Valleys'. It made me think about my own relationship with Jesus and ask myself if I am at the level I need to be. The ending was surprising for me and what these two precious people went through at the hands of others had me whispering, "No! Oh God don't let that happen!" LOL, it was a good thing people weren't around to hear me. :) In all, this is a wonderful series, and I've already purchased the third one and have begun reading the journey of the third Novak brother. I love these guys!

A Memory Between Us A Novel Wings of Glory Sarah Sundin 9780800734220 Books Reviews

This is book 2 in the Wings of Glory series that tells the story of 3 brothers who fly B-17s in WWII.

Jack is the brother that is expected to follow in his father's footsteps and become a preacher. The problem is that he doesn't really feel that he is cut out for that particular task. He's not really sure that it's his calling. He has always felt the most at home in the air and that's the way he likes it.

Ruth is a nurse that is trying to take care of her family even though she has been forced away from them and they aren't all together. She also has a past that she feels she'll never be able to forget. Once she meets Jack, she is having to rethink what exactly she wants and what she needs. Most of her life she has pushed everyone away, but Jack is determined to break through her walls whether she wants him to or not.

Having already read the first and third books, I felt like I had fallen asleep in the middle of a movie and woke up in time to see the ending. I really recommend that you read this series in order. All 3 brothers show up in the books and I think the best way to enjoy the complete story is to read them in order.

One word of caution If you have absolutely no interest in the Army Air Force, WWII or anything surrounding it, I want to warn you that there are a lot of details in this series. While I completely loved that much detail, I can see how someone who wasn't really into that would find all the descriptions a bit tedious. All in all, this was a fabulous series and I look forward to reading more from the author. Great Book!
While I loved book 1, A Distant Melody, I merely liked this book. I would have honestly said that the difference was length of books but I just checked and this book is only 16 pages longer. It felt enormously longer! This book dragged for me. I loved Jack and his struggles with ego, because isn't that a relatable struggle for us all? I liked Ruth and thought that she too had her share of issues that while I haven't experienced, thought rang true. I simply wonder if there couldn't have been a scene somewhere that could have been shortened to pick up the tempo of the book? Who can tell? While I eagerly delved into book 2 from a great read on book 1, I am sitting here knowing I will take a break from this series before I buy book 3. That didn't happen after book 1. Yet I will read book 3. I wonder why there wasn't closure on the Aunt that took the money and misrepresented how much she needed?
I've been very impressed with every book I've read from Sarah Sundin, and A Memory Between Us, is no different. The story line and characters are so real that you can get lost in their world.
The dedication to making her books as historically as possible is amazing! The amount of research is phenomenal. WWI and WWII romance, true stories, and action/thriller from this time frame is my favorite to read. Sarah, has brought such an accurate depiction of what took place during this time period you'll get a true sense of what the world was like during WWII.
You'll love this book/series, by a very talented author!
I bought this book immediately after finishing the first. I love how this series flows from one brother to the next, all interconnecting their stories. I was curious of Ruth's story when I first read of her in the first book. I never imagined it would be so heartbreaking! This is a beautiful, and thrilling story of forgiveness, and putting trust in God. It was wonderful to see these characters grow over the course of the story. I just love this series!!! I could read it over and over!
I only discovered Sarah Sundin books a few months ago and am now addicted to her work. My Dad was a WWII veteran who passed away in 1981. Although he would occasionally mention a tidbit about his experiences, which were disconcerting, I didn’t know how to respond. Now that I have read all of Sarah Sundin’s books I am kicking myself. She does an outstanding job of putting the reader in the character’s shoes. When I think that Dad was involved in battle and managed to survive by the end of the day, he had to get out of that cot and go back and do it again the next day and the day after that, etc.

To anyone who has a loved one who is a veteran of any armed conflict, I don’t say buzz them with questions but listen with a compassionate ear. I strongly recommend reading a Sarah Sundin story.
